Oyo, Enugu get new CPs as Egbetokun appoints PSO
The Inspector-General of Police, Kayode Egbetokun, has approved the appointment of new Commissioners of Police for Oyo and Enugu States, alongside a new Principal Staff Officer.
The “strategic deployments” are part of efforts to strengthen leadership and enhance effective policing across the country.
This was disclosed in a press release signed by the Force Public Relations Officer, ACP Olumuyiwa Adejobi, on Thursday.
According to the statement, Deputy Commissioner of Police (DCP) Ahmed Lateef has been appointed as the new Principal Staff Officer to the IG.
Lateef brings a wealth of experience to the position, having served as the Police Operations and Formed Police Unit, Coordinator for the African Union Transition Mission in Somalia
His career also includes roles such as the Personal Assistant to former IGP MD Abubakar and a Zonal Head of Operations with the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission.
“DCP Ahmed Lateef brings to the position a wealth of experience and a proven track record of leadership in various capacities within the Nigeria Police Force,” the press release stated, highlighting his readiness for the new role.
New Oyo, Enugu Commands CPs
Meanwhile, the IG, following the approval of the Police Service Commission, has deployed CP Johnson Adenola as the new Commissioner of Police for Oyo State Command.
Adenola’s appointment comes after his dedicated service as the Principal Staff Officer (PSO) to the IGP, where he contributed significantly to the effective administration of the Force.
Similarly, CP Mamman Giwa has been deployed as the new Commissioner of Police for Enugu State, succeeding AIG Uzuegbu Kanayo.
Mamman’s previous roles include Assistant Commissioner of Police (PMF FHQ), Deputy Commissioner of Police (PMF FHQ), and Deputy Commissioner of Police Operations, Kaduna State Command.
“These strategic deployments are aimed at strengthening the leadership capacity of the Force and ensuring effective policing across the country,” Adejobi emphasised, underscoring the importance of the new appointments.
The IGP has tasked the newly appointed officers with upholding the core values of the Nigeria Police Force—decency, transparency, and accountability.
He urged them to utilize their extensive experience to enhance security and maintain public confidence in the Force.
“The IGP has however charged the newly appointed officers to bring forth their wealth of experience in maintaining the core values and ethics of the Force in their respective offices,” the statement read.
