FCT gets new police commissioner
The Police Service Commission has approved the posting of new Commissioner of Police to the Federal Capital Territory Command.
This was announced in a statement on Saturday in Abuja by the PSC’s Head of Press and Public Relations, Mr Ikechukwu Ani.
According to Ani, the postings follow the recommendation of the Inspector-General of Police, Kayode Egbetokun.
He stated that CP Peter Opara has been deployed to the FCT, replacing CP Benneth Igwe, who has been promoted to the rank of Assistant Inspector-General of Police and posted to Zone 7, Abuja.
Ani added that Opara, the immediate past CP at the Force Secretary’s Office, was also the former Deputy Commissioner of Administration and Finance at the Imo Command. Opara once served as the Personal Assistant to former PSC Chairman, ex-IG Mike Okiro.
Ani further noted that the new Akwa Ibom CP is a law graduate from the University of Calabar and had previously served as a Liaison Officer at the PSC.
PSC on Friday approved the appointment of four substantive Commissioners of Police for Abia, Lagos, Ebonyi and Akwa Ibom State Commands.
