Govt focused on reviving economy, uplifting poor- Tinubu
President Bola Tinubu has restated the Federal Government’s commitment to building an inclusive and prosperous Nigeria, with a focus on uplifting the poor and reviving the economy.
Tinubu also called on Nigerians to continue to prioritise peaceful coexistence, equity, justice and compassion towards one another as these are the hallmarks of a great nation.
The President stated this on Friday while declaring open the 11th Triennial National Conference and 101 anniversary of the Ansar-ud-Deen Society of Nigeria held in Abeokuta.
Tinubu represented by the Ogun State Deputy Governor, Noimot Salako-Oyedele, explained that since assuming office, his administration has remained committed to building a more inclusive, secure and prosperous Nigerian guided by his administration’s renewed hope agenda.
He said, “We are focused on reviving the economy, uplifting the poor and restoring confidence in public institutions”.
The President however noted that achieving all the lofty goals cannot be achieved without the support and partnerships of credible, value-driven organizations like that of Ansar-ud-Deen Society of Nigeria and the entire support of all well-meaning individuals across the country.
Tinubu hailed the Muslim society for championing for over a century the cause of Islamic education and community development in Nigeria and, the establishment of schools and health centres while also supporting the spiritual and social needs of its members.
The President said “The society has become a critical pillar of our national fabric. Your impact is visible across generations, particularly in your ability to nurture God-fearing intellectually sound and socially responsible individuals”.
Tinubu disclosed that the conference themed “Islam and Muslims: Responsibilities and Relevance in a Pluralistic World” is both timely and thought-provoking in a world increasingly characterized by diversity of thought, belief and control
He added that “Muslims must therefore continue to be ambassadors of justice, compassion and peaceful coexistence.
“The theme reminds us that while we hold fast to our faith, we must also engage with the broader society constructively and conscientiously”
Tinubu urged the association to let the conference be a platform for honest reflection on bold ideas and practical recommendations that could reinforce the relevance of Islam in addressing today’s challenges, from youth development to moral leadership, from education reform to economic empowerment among others.
The President rejoiced with the society and urged its members to remain steadfast in their noble pursuits while they continue to serve as a force for unity, progress and enlightened citizenship.
Speaking earlier, the National President of the Society, Dr Abdulrafiu Sanni said that the conference serves as a platform to reflect on the society’s achievements, assess the challenges, and strategize for the future.
Dr Sanni disclosed that the triennial conference also helps to reinforce the society’s commitment to educational advancement, moral upbringing, and national unity.
He explained further that in the spirit of collaboration, the society is always ready to partner with governmental bodies, traditional institutions, and religious organizations in addressing pressing issues of youth empowerment, social justice, and economic development among other challenges facing the country.
Sanni used the medium to urge participants at the conference to let their deliberation for the three-day conference be guided by the principles of mutual respect, inclusivity, and a shared vision for a prosperous Nigeria.
Other speakers at the occasion included Nigeria’s former High Commissioner to the United Kingdom, Amb Sarafadeen Ishola, the JAMB Registrar, Prof Ishaq Oloyode and Prof Mustapha Arikewuyo all of whom called for oneness of Muslim and peaceful coexistence across the country.
