Bobrisky reportedly arrested on return to Nigeria
Controversial social media celebrity, Idris Okuneye, better known as Bobrisky, has noted that he’s been arrested by immigration officers for issues unknown to hielated posts
On Tuesday, Bobrisky took to his Instagram handle to share this news: “Guys, I have just been arrested by immigration in Nigeria. I don’t know what I did o,” she wrote.
Immigration authorities have yet to confirm the claim or provide further details.
Bobrisky has remained a controversial figure in Nigeria’s entertainment space. He gained fame through social media, first as a crossdresser and later as a self-proclaimed transgender woman, despite Nigeria’s conservative stance on gender identity.
He reported arrest comes months after he announced he had left Nigeria to focus on his well-being. Bobrisky’s legal troubles date back to April last year when a court sentenced him to six months in prison for abusing the naira by spraying money at a public event.
Following his release, activist VeryDarkMan shared an alleged audio recording where Bobrisky reportedly claimed to have paid EFCC officials N15 million to drop money laundering charges. Bob also alleged that his “godfather” and Haliru Nababa, Controller-General of the Nigerian Correctional Service (NCoS), arranged for him to serve his sentence in a private apartment. Bobrisky denied the claims and threatened legal action.
Beyond controversies, Bobrisky has leveraged her social media influence for brand endorsements and ambassadorial deals. He often flaunts his luxurious lifestyle, claiming to receive millions in gifts from admirers.
In a TikTok live session sometimes last year, Bobrisky announced his relocation to an undisclosed country where he is “officially recognised as female.”
Vowing never to return, he said, “Nothing will bring me back to Nigeria.” Breaking his vow, his return to Nigeria is met with an alleged arrest. Currently, fans are eager to know his offence and reason for his arrest which is yet to be disclosed.
