SEDC board will tackle Southeast infrastructure deficit — Ex-PDP presidential Aspirant
A former Peoples Democratic Party presidential aspirant and former Deputy Speaker of the Abia State House of Assembly, Dr Cosmos Ndukwe, has commended President Bola Tinubu for his choice of members for the South East Development Commission Board of Directors.
Speaking on Monday in Umuahia, Ndukwe expressed optimism that the infrastructural deficit in the Southeast geopolitical zone would soon be addressed, citing the competence and proven track records of the president’s nominees.
“With experienced and visionary patriots as members of the SEDC board, the nominees will deliver, considering their antecedents and wealth of experience. The objective of the commission would not be defeated,” Ndukwe said.
“I have no iota of doubt that, with this quality of members on the SEDC board, the President’s vision for Southeast development will be realised. They will utilise their expertise and experience to fulfil the Commission’s mandate.
“With the establishment of the commission, the infrastructural gap in the Southeast will be bridged. We now have a commission dedicated to addressing issues of marginalisation and infrastructural dilapidation in the region,” he added.
Dr Ndukwe also applauded President Tinubu for signing the SEDC Act into law, which he noted his predecessors had failed to do. He praised Deputy Speaker of the House of Representatives, Rt. Hon. Benjamin Kalu, for sponsoring the SEDC bill.
“President Tinubu has engraved himself on the minds of our people by signing the SEDC Act into law, which previous administrations could not achieve. The Deputy Speaker has also shown proactive and visionary leadership by sponsoring the bill and ensuring its success. History will always remember him for this great feat,” Ndukwe remarked.
Earlier, President Tinubu reviewed the list of nominees submitted to the Senate for confirmation. Among the nominees, former Minister for Labour and Productivity, Emeka Wogu, was appointed as Chairman of the SEDC, while Mark Okoye was named Managing Director/Chief Executive Officer.
Ndukwe, who has since defected from the PDP to the All Progressives Congress, expressed confidence that the board would bring significant development to the Southeast.
