Ogun, institute unveil guidelines for resolving family, land disputes
The Ogun State Government, in collaboration with the Hague Institute for Innovation of Law, has unveiled a document aimed at addressing family and land disputes in the state.
The guidelines, which were unveiled at the Obas Complex in Abeokuta, the state capital, are designed to provide people-centred justice solutions that prioritise the pressing legal needs of individuals.
A statement on Monday by the institute said the initiative, a product of extensive research and stakeholder engagement, incorporated inputs from 1,490 participants, including experts in psychology, communication, criminology and conflict resolution.
“The guidelines aim to foster peaceful dispute resolution through effective communication and mediation, reducing the reliance on conventional courts. Governor Dapo Abiodun, represented by the Director of Public Prosecution in the Ministry of Justice, Mrs Adebimpe Obienu, highlighted the transformative potential of the guidelines.
“This document will empower practitioners with effective techniques for resolving disputes swiftly and amicably without court intervention. It is a people-centred approach that addresses core justice needs,” the governor was quoted as saying.
In her remarks, HiiL’s Country Representative, Mrs Ijeoma Nwafor, underscored the urgency of improving access to justice, particularly in rural areas.
