Bandits Kill Traditional Ruler; As Police Rescue Eight Other Victims

The Nigeria Police Force, Kebbi Command, has confirmed the killing of the District Head of Kanya, Alhaji Isah Daya, who was abducted by suspected bandits in Danko/Wasagu Local Government Area.
It was gathered that the abduction occurred on October 6, saw nine people, including the district head, taken from the Kanya District.
According to a statement issued by the command’s spokesperson, SP Nafi’u Abubakar, the combined efforts of the police, military, and local vigilante groups led to the rescue of eight abductees.
However, the district head’s life could not be saved.
“Acting on credible intelligence and with the determination and resilience of our security team, eight victims have been successfully rescued,” Abubakar said on Tuesday in Birnin Kebbi.
“They were rescued unharmed on Tuesday at around 10am in the Sakaba forest following a gunfight.
The rescued victims have since been reunited with their families after receiving medical attention at the General Hospital, Sakaba.
However, during the search and rescue operation, the body of the district head of Kanya, Alhaji Isah Daya, was discovered in the forest,” he explained.
Abubakar also conveyed the condolences of the State Commissioner of Police, Alhaji Bello Sani, to the State Government, the Zuru Emirate, the family, and friends of the late district head.
“May Allah forgive his shortcomings and grant his soul eternal rest in Jannatul Firdaus,” the CP prayed.
The PRO called on the public to assist the police and other security agencies with any information that could lead to the arrest of those responsible for the heinous crime.
