She invited us to have f√n with her— Suspects arrested for def!ling teenage Girl makes revelations
Qayum, along with three other suspects, Azim and Mutiu (surnames withheld), was apprehended by the Oyo State Command of the Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps (NSCDC) for their alleged involvement in the rape, which led to the girl’s pregnancy and a subsequent illegal abortion performed by an unlicensed nurse.
The nurse, 23-year-old Oyindamola, was also arrested in connection with the illegal abortion.
The NSCDC Commandant, Augustine Padonu, publicly presented the suspects, including Qayum and his accomplices, during a press briefing over the weekend.
He revealed that after the girl became pregnant, the alleged rapists arranged for the unlicensed nurse to perform the abortion in an attempt to cover up their crime.
In an interview with the Nigerian Tribune, Qayum denied the rape allegations, claiming that the sexual encounters with the girl were consensual.
He described her as a person with a high sexual appetite who actively sought out such interactions.
Qayum, a barber by trade, recounted that he began a relationship with the girl a few months prior.
He described an instance when he took her to his friend’s residence where two of his friends were present outside, implying that the sexual activity was consensual and part of their ongoing relationship.
“We were yet to do anything when she asked that I allow my friends to enter, so I called them in. They were Fawaz and Azim. When they entered, we stated talking and one of my friends asked if she would allow the three of us to sleep with her, but she said no. She later said if my friends would buy food for her, she would allow us. My friend then went to buy meat pie. First, two of us slept with her in turns. It was at noon. I didn’t ejaculate in her.
“After we were done, she asked for our third friend and he came and also slept with her. Afterwards, I told her I was ready to go home and she said she was also ready too and she asked me to give her money and I said I didn’t have money. So my friends said we should gather money and we gave her N1000.
“One day, I met one neighbourhood brother, Mutiu, and I told him that the girl I am dating is so promiscuous that even if she is offered N200, she would allow anyone sleep with her, then Brother Mutiu said I should call her and I went to call her. I took her to his house. It was later that I got to know that she became pregnant.
“We noticed the pregnancy was about two to three months, and I said I don’t know anything about it. Even when I took her to my friends, it was less than a month from that time and when they said she would abort the pregnancy, I immediately opted out. I had slept with her once before the one I did with my friends.”
Another suspect, Mutiu, aged 43, and a driver, also narrated his involvement: “I met one of my younger friends, Qayum, and he said he had a girl he wanted to introduce to me, so I said he should go and bring her. I didn’t even know he would return that day because it was already past 10:00 p.m.
“When he came with the girl, I told her I would like to date her and she said no problem. When we entered the house, I asked her if I could sleep with her, she also gave her consent. We had sex that night. When she was leaving in the morning, I gave her N1000.
“The following day, Qayum who introduced her to me said she told him that she wanted to know me as she could not recognise me because it was dark when she came to my house. So, when she came, I realised she was so young. She said she is in JSS 3 and that she is 16 years old.
“That was when I remembered that Qayum said those who sleep with her only give her N200 after the act. She then said she wanted to be coming to my house and I agreed, so she would come, sometimes, I would be at home, and sometimes I would be away. I asked about her parents and she her mother had left her since she was young and that her father is a butcher who returns home by 11:00 p.m.
“When she was with me, she told me that she menstruates on the ninth or 11th of every month, but on this particular month, I expected her to menstruate but she didn’t and that was when I had to force her to leave my house. Eventually, I looked for a nurse and took her there to get rid of the fetus.”
Oyindamola admitted to administering an injection and providing medication to the pregnant girl to induce an abortion.
Commandant Padonu assured the public that all suspects will face legal proceedings once the investigation is complete. He also encouraged the residents of Oyo State to report any suspicious activities to the NSCDC or other security agencies.
